Gary O'Connell Recognized as 2010 Leader's Leader Award
The Leadership Charlottesville Alumni Association presented its annual Leaders' Leader Award to City Manager Gary O'Connell, from the Leadership Charlottesville class of 1982. LCAA Past President Carrie Shaeffer of Barton Malow (LC 2001), introduced O'Connell saying "Gary has supported Leadership Charlottesville by providing outstanding candidates year after year and we all know it is the caliber and commitment of the class that keeps LC strong. He takes the vision of the elected Council and executes a plan of action which has made Charlottesville a World Class City."
O'Connell was recognized for his exceptional service to the City of Charlottesville for more than 29 years. He has represented the community by chairing the Virginia Innovation Group, acting as Treasurer of the Virginia First Cities Coalition, and is an active member in the Chamber, United Way, and the Rotary Club. He recently accepted a position as Executive Director of the Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA).
Criteria for Selection
The Leader's Leader is a Leadership Charlottesville graduate who has demonstrated initiative, vision, and responsibility, investing their time and efforts to contribute to the community, the Leadership Charlottesville program, and/or the Alumni Association. Leadership Charlottesville is a unique, innovative Chamber program designed to help the community meet its need for active participation of informed, dedicated community leaders. Leadership Charlottesville demonstrates the Chamber's efforts to help build better bridges of understanding and cooperation that are essential as we work to build a better future for our businesses, our family and our neighbors.
