Who We Are

Formed in 1985, the Leadership Charlottesville Alumni Association (LCAA) is an alumni organization for the graduates of the Leadership Charlottesville program. LCAA is dedicated to continuing the networking, learning, and community activities stimulated by its members' participation in the Chamber program.

There are over 600 graduates of Leadership Charlottesville, representing all facets of the community, with members from the public sector, private businesses of all sizes, and the non-profit sector. All alumni completed the Leadership Charlottesville program offered each fall by the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce. The fall program consists of eleven sessions built around a curriculum of community issues. Following the conclusion of the fall program, participants put their learning into action as they design, develop and implement community service projects.

LCAA supports the Leadership Charlottesville program through:

  • Recruiting applicants through events and personal contacts
  • Providing scholarships to LC participants who could not otherwise attend
  • Hosting a reception for the new class following their opening session
  • Servings as advisors, planners and presenters at LC sessions
  • Recognizing an LC Graduate for outstanding community service through the annual Leaders’ Leader Award

LCAA provides networking opportunities by:

  • Holding an Annual Meeting each January
  • Hosting a Winter Social at Michie Tavern in February
  • Publishing a semi-annual newsletter
  • Conduct a fall outing

LCAA promotes awareness of and participation in community organizations in various ways, including:

  • Partnering with community organizations
  • Recognizing an LC graduate as the Leaders' Leader each year at the Annual Luncheon
  • Participating as a team in the United Way Day of Caring
  • Working with the Community Art fund to raise over $10,000 for Service Dogs of Virginia
  • Helping with the "Be A Santa to a Senior" holiday effort

Most of these activities are provided at no charge to alumni, funded by membership dues.

Purpose
